College of Veterinary Medicine
We are barking out a big THANK YOU to the College of Veterinary Medicine for hosting a pawsitively captivating and enlightening Team Stewardship! We were delighted to hear from Dean Lisa Nolan and Dr. Sharron Quisenberry regarding some of the top priorities at CVM, including raising funds for a new Clinical Skills Lab and Spectrum of Care Clinic, hiring first rate faculty members, and addressing the shortage of veterinarians in rural areas. We also learned that UGA is ranked the #7 Best Veterinary School by U.S. News & World Report (2023-2024) and is the first CVM to develop a Bee Medicine Program. Team Stewardship ended with a tour of the Veterinary Teaching Hospital, which is one of the busiest and largest teaching hospitals in the country and offers over 25 different services to cats, dogs, farm animals, and exotic animals.

"Becoming a Breed of Our Own"
Over the past year, the College of Veterinary Medicine’s Development and Alumni Relations team has undergone significant adaptability and adjustment, leading them to their current stewardship theme: “Becoming a Breed of Our Own.” Mallory Moye, Abby Bryant, and Stephanie Hall shared with Team Stewardship about the extensive revamping of their stewardship processes. Just a few highlights:
- The Butler Garden: Abby Bryant has undertaken the task of restoring the Butler Garden, a memorial garden that serves as a tribute to pets and vets. Collaborating with MedMaps, she has developed a comprehensive map of the Butler Garden that not only guides donors, but also aids in soliciting new gifts.
-
Endowed Faculty Onboarding: The Vet Med team offers onboarding sessions with newly appointed faculty to discuss branding guidelines and to review their fund agreement, expenditure report, and new fiscal year budget. They also request these faculty members incorporate a giving button into their email signatures, a measure that has garnered a tremendous response.
-
Note Collecting Events: The introduction of note writing events to Vet Med students at "Classic Campus" has yielded remarkable success. To streamline the process, students receive a conveniently packaged bundle consisting of three blank cards and a sample thank-you message. As a token of appreciation, participating students are rewarded with a Chick-fil-A sandwich.
- Pet Memorial Program: Stephanie Hall explained the recent revitalization of the pet memorial program, which now entails sending recipients a lovely, personalized card whenever a gift is made in memory of a pet. The redesigned card serves as a cherished keepsake that can be framed. Additionally, a new website was launched on May 1st, aligning with the brand, and providing a streamlined giving experience.
- CVM Calendar: The grateful client calendar has returned this year, featuring a different species each month along with their story of receiving service from the College of Veterinary Medicine. This calendar serves as a tool to steward veterinary client donors and potentially attract new prospects.

The thank you notes will be mailed to top-level donors in the coming weeks. The Dawg Day of Gratitude video, created by Edwin Hammond, will be sent to all FY23 donors at the end of the fiscal year. Photos from the day can be accessed here.
