Fundraising update, One Big Question, and more!

Georgia Women Give

Hey everyone!

Fall is (finally) in the air and our little group continues to grow! Georgia Women Give events were held in Dallas, Houston, Greenville, and Augusta over the past few months. We’re thrilled to see our community grow, because that’s what it’s all about: our community, dedicated to giving and growing together by deepening our connection with UGA.

One of my favorite parts of those in-person gatherings is simply listening to and learning from the people in the room. But, you know, we don’t have to be physically together to share our stories and perspectives. So, we’re trying something new with this email: we’re asking you One Big Question, and in a few weeks, we’ll share the anonymized answers with the group.

One Big Question

Georgia Women Give wants to speak to the women of today, and while many of us are empowered leaders in so many areas of our lives, that unfortunately isn’t always the case when it comes to money. What do you wish you had known or started doing sooner when it comes to your finances?

I also want to introduce everyone to our first ever Georgia Women Give Executive Committee! These ladies will be champions of GWG and will help ensure that our group remains engaging and effective in the long term. Meet our EC members!

On the fundraising side, we are up to 84 founding donors, who have raised a total of $2.1 million for our signature funds! And I’m excited to let you know that the aforementioned executive committee, in its first official action, has decided where our Campus Priorities fund will make its first investment: UGA’s Connect Abroad program!

Stories from Campus

  • Ertharin Cousin: The Future of Food
    • This UGA School of Law grad and former U.S. ambassador to the United Nations Agencies for Food and Agriculture is in pursuit of a single goal: a malnutrition-free world.
  • Student veteran receives national leadership award
    • Gabriela Castillo, an Army medic turned pre-med student and UGA Student Veterans Resource Center staff member, was featured on the cover of G.I. Jobs magazine.
  • Three sisters united by a love of music

    • Barbara Bennett, Sally Bennett Fillebrown, and Susan Bennett Gallimore—all Double Dawgs—may live across the country, but their love of music keeps the sisters in perfect harmony.

I’m looking forward to seeing many of our founding donors on Nov. 10 (note the date change from Nov. 3) for a lunch in Athens and a tour of Dr. Jenna Jambeck's lab! Also, make sure to go ahead and mark March 21-22 on your calendar—that’s when we’ll have our second annual spring event! Last year was a ball, so I hope you’ll come for this year’s event.

And don't forget to keep spreading the word about GWG! You all have been our best recruiters, so please do keep referring friends and potential new members.

Go Dawgs!
