Have You Answered the Call to Get Vaccinated? 50 Winners Will be Drawn Tomorrow! Current UGA faculty, staff and students who have received a full series of the COVID-19 vaccine—whether at the University Health Center or elsewhere—can register NOW to win one of 100 cash prizes of $1,000.
Not vaccinated yet? It’s not too late. Individuals vaccinated in the coming weeks will be able to add their names to the pool as soon as they receive their second dose (or single dose of J&J).
The first 50 winners will be drawn TOMORROW, Sept. 15 with 25 additional winners being drawn on Sept. 30 and Oct. 15. Faculty and staff winners will be processed through UGA’s payroll and taxed accordingly, and those at senior leadership levels (University Cabinet members and deans) will not be eligible to participate. Students will be provided the aid through their student accounts.
Get Vaccinated On Campus COVID-19 vaccinations are available at the University Health Center. Click here to make an appointment. Getting your vaccine is fast, easy and at no cost to you.
Faculty, staff and students who get vaccinated at the University Health Center will receive a $20 gift card as well as a specially designed UGA T-shirt. While supplies last, options include local gift cards to Starbucks, Chick-fil-A, Rashe’s Cuisine and Maepole.
Gift card and T-shirt incentives are for new vaccinations only. Share the word with friends and colleagues!
COVID-19 Testing The University Health Center (UHC) continues to offer free surveillance testing for all faculty, staff and students—just as we did last year. We are open for appointments Monday through Friday from 9:00 a.m.-3:30 p.m.
As an added convenience, pop-up testing will be offered on the Tate Student Center West Lawn on Thursday, Sept. 16 from 10 a.m.-2 p.m.
The UHC can accommodate up to 800 saliva tests per day. Appointments for asymptomatic testing can be booked via the Vet View scheduling process and walk-ups are always welcome. Surveillance tests are conducted outside the UHC, separate from students who are coming inside the clinic for symptomatic testing. There is plenty of room to park, and the whole process usually takes about 5-10 minutes. Samples are processed by the Veterinary Diagnostic Laboratories, and results are provided to clients within 24-48 hours.
Based on CDC and DPH guidance, any individual, vaccinated or not, should get tested if they have had close contact with someone with COVID-19 within 3 to 5 days of that contact.
Face Coverings Strongly Encouraged Indoors Please remember that face coverings are strongly encouraged when inside buildings on the UGA campus.
Any students who want cloth face coverings can pick them up at no cost at Information Desks in the Tate Student Center and the Miller Learning Center.
Pursuant to state and University System of Georgia rules, students and employees cannot be asked for proof of their vaccination status. Vaccinated and unvaccinated individuals should not be treated differently unless dictated by law or applicable guidance. In addition, students should not be asked about their vaccine status and segregated in a classroom or from other instructor-student interactions (e.g., office hours, group work, field trips, labs, etc.) based on their vaccination status.
However, students may be required by off-campus partnering organizations to wear masks and/or be vaccinated as a condition of participation in experiential learning opportunities such as study abroad programs, externships and delivery of medical services.
Off campus, masks are required indoors in Athens-Clarke County. As of 8 a.m. on Wed., Aug. 4, masks are required when indoors for most people while inside public spaces or private entities with limited exceptions. Click here for more details.

UGA Bus Routes Focus on Support and Efficiencies Similar to universities and businesses across the nation, Transportation & Parking Services (TPS) is experiencing staffing challenges, particularly a shortage of student bus drivers. By optimizing the number of buses on each route and diverting resources when necessary, TPS has managed to provide approximately 78% as many buses on routes as compared to Fall 2019.
This was also made possible due to optimized bus routes in partnership with the Student Government Association (SGA) in Fall 2020. Based on student feedback, data collection, SGA surveys and more, many routes were shortened to provide quicker and more frequent service through campus. Redundancies were also eliminated to allow more transit support in areas with higher ridership demand.
Bulldog Housing Bus Route Expansion Effective Tuesday, Sept. 7, students, faculty and staff riding buses on the Bulldog Housing route can enjoy expanded bus service with additional stops at Physics, Memorial Hall and Correll Hall. Based on rider feedback, Transportation & Parking Services and SGA have partnered to better connect areas of South Campus to the Miller Learning Center and Tate Student Center.
Transportation & Parking Services Now Hiring at Increased Rate TPS has increased pay for student workers! Bus operators now start out earning $11 per hour, making them one of the highest paid student jobs on campus. Drivers also receive paid training for a Commercial Driver’s License as well as incremental pay increases every 15 weeks.
Student Van Operators, Parking Compliance Monitors and Parking Operations positions also had an increase in starting pay to $9.75 per hour.
UGA Libraries’ FACTS-Finding Mission At the UGA Libraries, we’ve got FACTS. We invite students to explore all of the resources and services that can help them on their academic journey by participating in our FACTS-Finding Mission, a self-guided scavenger-hunt style orientation through our major locations: the Main Library, the Science Library and the Miller Learning Center.
Find the QR codes that correspond to our FACTS — from friendly librarians and staff to tech to savings. Visit the photo booths for a small prize at each location, and tag us on Instagram @ugalibs to be entered into the grand-prize drawing. You can get bonus entries into the grand-prize drawing if you tag us in your pics at the Special Collections Libraries Art Library, Music Library, Curriculum Materials Library or Carnegie Library.
Students can participate beginning Sept. 20 through noon on Sept. 24. Afterward, we will choose a winner for a grand prize, featuring an academic planner and a gift card to one of our coffee locations.

Celebrate the Launch of Mary Frances Early’s Autobiography The Mary Frances Early College of Education and the University of Georgia Libraries invite the community to celebrate the launch of Mary Frances Early’s autobiography, The Quiet Trailblazer: My Journey as the First Black Graduate of the University of Georgia.
Early will participate in a virtual book discussion, in conversation with UGA Women’s Basketball Coach Joni Taylor, at 2 p.m. on Tuesday, Sept. 28. Visit the registration page to sign up for the livestream event, which is part of the UGA Signature Lecture Series and is co-sponsored by the Office of the President and the Office of Alumni Relations.
For the celebration, 500 copies of The Quiet Trailblazer will be distributed to students as part of a community reading program created by the Presidential Task Force on Race, Ethnicity, and Community earlier this year.
