UGA Campus Update
Fall 2021 Campus Update
Get Your Flu Shot on Campus Walk-in flu shots are available at the University Health Center Pharmacy for all students, faculty and staff Monday-Friday, 9 a.m.-5 p.m.
Students can also schedule an appointment with their UHC primary care provider online at healthcenter.uga.edu or by calling 706-542-1162.
Faculty and staff can make an appointment with the UHC Travel Clinic by calling 706-542-5575.
COVID-19 Testing for Holiday Travel If you are traveling this holiday season where official documentation of testing is not required, plan ahead and get free asymptomatic testing at UHC. Please note: asymptomatic test result print outs do not meet the requirements for airline travel/clearance.
UHC does offer travel clinic consults and testing for a fee but individuals are not guaranteed same or next day appointments, so it is best to plan early. The Travel Clinic does provide appropriate and acceptable documentation that meets travel requirements for international travel. There is a fee for the visit and charges depend on what is ordered.
In addition, UHC’s lab offers same-day testing for $100. Results are sent via email.
Pop-up COVID-19 Testing Ahead of Holiday Break The UGA College of Public Health, in partnership with the UHC, will offer pop-up COVID-19 testing at the Tate Center ahead of Winter Break. Walk-up testing will be offered from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. on Dec. 20. No appointments are necessary for these services.
Preliminary Injunction of Federal Contractor Requirements Earlier this week, the United States District Court for the Southern District of Georgia granted a preliminary injunction against the enforcement of President Biden’s Executive Order 14042 and the accompanying guidance from the Safer Federal Workforce Task Force as it relates to covered contracts, including the requirement that covered contractor employees be vaccinated.
As a result of the injunction, these requirements are currently suspended until further notice:
We continue to strongly encourage all members of the University community to get vaccinated, and we encourage everyone—whether vaccinated or not—to wear a face covering while inside campus facilities.
Call to Schedule Vaccines at UHC Beginning January 4, 2022, faculty and staff who would like to schedule a COVID vaccine appointment at the University Health Center may do so by calling 706-542-5575. Students may continue to schedule their COVID vaccine appointments online through the Patient Portal (https://patientportal.uhs.uga.edu).
Also beginning January 4, 2022, the UHC will only offer Pfizer vaccines for first, second and booster doses.
Providers offering Moderna or J&J (Janssen) can be found at https://www.vaccines.gov/search/.
Face Coverings on Campus Please remember that face coverings are strongly encouraged when inside buildings on the UGA campus.
UGA has a number of face coverings available in several types and designs. Disposable masks are also available. Departments that are interested in having masks on hand can order them at no cost through UGAmart. Orders will be limited to the number of employees in the department or unit. Instructions for ordering face coverings can be found here.
Any students who want cloth face coverings can pick them up at no cost at Information Desks in the Tate Student Center and the Miller Learning Center.
COVID-19 Cases Remain Low at UGA as Semester Nears End As the fall semester winds down at the University of Georgia, reported cases of COVID-19 on campus remain low overall, with the positivity rate for surveillance testing dropping from the previous week.
A total of 29 cases were reported for the week of Nov. 22- Dec. 5, an increase of 10 cases from the previous week. This week’s figure marks a 95% decrease from the peak of cases reported around Labor Day. The University Health Center (UHC) posted the data as part of the weekly update on its website Wednesday morning. Of the 29 cases reported in DawgCheck, 21 were students and eight were staff members. There were no cases reported among members of the faculty.
The positivity rate for UGA’s surveillance testing dropped from the previous week, with two of 373 asymptomatic individuals testing positive for a rate of 0.5%. The UHC can test up to 800 individuals a day, and this service is offered free to the campus community.
