During the COVID-19 pandemic, more moms and caregivers turned to freelance and gig work to continue working while providing care at home.
Laura Little, Chick-fil-A Distinguished Professor for Leadership Advancement, told the BBC that women were drawn to this type of work because it provided needed income for their family and allowed them to maintain their professional identities. “They get to have ownership over what they’re doing and when they’re doing it — without having to work full-time when they either don’t want to or can’t,” Little said. The trend benefits caregivers and companies, who gain access to a diverse and flexible pool of employees, she added.
