Over the last two years, residents outside of Savannah have seen a “tidal wave” of new warehouse development to serve the expanding Port of Savannah. While not always welcome by neighbors, the warehouse construction follows years of infrastructure investment aimed at expanding the port’s capacity. “We’re riding a wave, and I think it’s a wave that will go on for a very long time — this is an enduring trend,” Jeff Humphreys, director of UGA’s Selig Center for Economic Growth, told the Atlanta Journal-Constitution. “We got an outside share of that growth and it stuck, even though the pandemic has passed, demand has continued to increase.”
