BARTLETT GIVES BACK ALONG GEORGIA'S COAST

Ruth Bartlett (BBA '76) retired to Hilton Head Island full-time in 2015, after 28 years at Frazier & Deeter, LLC. She served as president of the University of Georgia Alumni Association and is a Terry College of Business Emeritus Board member. Since retiring, Bartlett has had more time to delve into interests beyond her career. Since living in the lowcountry, she found herself interested in marine sciences and ecology. Bartlett learned about the UGA Marine Extension and Georgia Sea Grant program on Skidaway Island and has since combined her interests with her philanthropy. Bartlett's newfound interests and her connection to UGA led her to quickly become an advocate for the project, and she has made a generous commitment to revamp the aquarium's programming for school-age children. Bartlett even created the Hilton Head alumni chapter as a way to connect her new beachside present with her Bulldog past. Learn more about Ruth's story here.

These days you will not find Mickey and Doug Benn in one spot for long; they are usually heading out on their next adventure or packing to spend time with friends and family. Both Mickey and Doug are proud alumni of the University of Georgia. Doug graduated with bachelor’s and master’s degrees in accounting, while Mickey earned a bachelor’s degree in mathematics and computer science.

Over the years, the Benns have demonstrated their support to the Terry College through their time, talents, and treasures. They are members of the Terry Shareholders’ Society and the Pinnacle Society . Doug has served on the Terry College Alumni Board, is active on the Terry Dean’s Advisory Council and has participated in countless student engagement opportunities and lectures. Mickey and Doug were instrumental in the realization of the Business Learning Community through their support of the Building Terry Campaign. During the campaign they provided valuable insight as to what was needed for a new financial learning center to ensure students would have the most cutting-edge technology to support their education. The Benn’s insight directly led to the creation of the Benn Capital Markets Lab located in Amos Hall. This modern finance lab is stocked with technology that moves at the speed of markets. We are grateful our students can now experience what it’s like on the trading floor of the New York Stock Exchange and are prepared for their future in the workforce.

The Benn’s love and dedication for their alma mater is most apparent through their compassion for helping others. In 2018, the Benns established the Benn Family Scholarship to benefit students in the Terry College. Mickey and Doug have created wonderful friendships with their scholarship recipients and have been a helpful resource to many of our Terry undergraduate students. We appreciate their commitment, trust and loyalty to our Terry College students and faculty!
