Dear UGA Philosophy alumni and friends,
I hope your summer is going well. It’s quiet in Athens, but not in Peabody Hall, where significant renovation is taking place this summer. The second floor already looks great, and we are excited to see how the work on the ground floor turns out. We are also excited about new courses in ethics, a new program in bioethics (see below), and the imminent arrival of our newest faculty members, Nick Schuster, who is part of the Presidential Hiring Initiative in AI and Data Science.

I’m sure you already know how valuable philosophy is, but you might be interested in looking at a recently published article, which provides the best evidence yet that “Studying Philosophy Does Make People Better Thinkers.” We certainly do our best at UGA’s Department of Philosophy!
As always, we appreciate your interest in the Department of Philosophy. Please email me at Aaron.Meskin@uga.edu if you have any questions, want to share something about your time at UGA, or would like to arrange a day to visit. Go Dawgs! |

Aesthetics Lab & Chattahoochee Aesthetics Workshop |
Department Head Aaron Meskin spearheaded the University of Georgia Aesthetics Lab, a new philosophy working group modeled on labs in STEM fields. The Aesthetics Lab serves as a way for graduate students and faculty to receive constructive feedback on their work, ranging from publication ideas to dissertation chapters and everything in between. The efforts resulted in a panel at the 2025 Chattahoochee Aesthetics Workshop, a regular meeting of UGA and Auburn University faculty and students interested in philosophical aesthetics. The three-day, interdisciplinary event took place in April at the Athenaeum, The University of Georgia's Downtown gallery space. Read more
