However, graphics should not be overwhelming; instead, they should clearly and concisely convey the desired message. | Finn Walsh named a 2026 Marshall Scholar
Senior Finn Walsh will build on her studies in infectious disease next fall as UGA’s newest Marshall Scholar. Each year, as many as 50 students are selected for the British government–funded Marshall Scholarship, which supports up to three years of fully funded graduate study in the United Kingdom and strengthens ties between the British and American peoples and institutions.
SREL Director Olin ‘Gene’ Rhodes named 2025 Fred C. Davison Distinguished Scientist Award recipient
Savannah River Ecology Laboratory (SREL) Director Olin E. “Gene” Rhodes has been selected as the recipient of the 2025 Fred C. Davison Distinguished Scientist Award. The award, presented annually by Citizens for Nuclear Technology Awareness, recognizes scientists and engineers whose lifetime scientific contributions have meaningfully shaped the scientific landscape. |

New sponsored project activity report launches
The Office of Research has launched an updated Sponsored Project Activity Report, developed with extensive input from faculty, staff and campus partners. The new, authoritative report features year-over-year trends by unit or investigator, academic versus center/institute credit toggles, dataset exports, and customizable views with subscriptions. Labviva launches new updates
UGA laboratory supplier Labviva updated its platform on Dec. 12 with a new search experience and AI quote-parsing. The updated search interface will make it easier to find the right item quickly. The AI quote parsing feature will extract key information from supplier quotes so orders can be created faster and with fewer manual steps. |

The first comprehensive evaluation of HawkEye, an ocean-color instrument aboard the SeaHawk CubeSat, shows that its imagery is suitable for remote-sensing work, according to a new paper led by University of Georgia Skidaway Institute of Oceanography (SkIO) postdoctoral researcher Srinivas Kolluru.
