Resources to assist with experimental design
The Office of Animal Care and Use website has a new resource for researchers developing their IACUC protocols. The Experimental Design Assistant (EDA), created by NC3Rs, can provide tailored feedback for design improvement, a diagram overview and guidance on randomization, sample size and statistical analysis. There is also a new instructional video explaining how to optimize using the EDA tool.
New budget allocation tool available in grants portal
Beginning November 2023, principal investigators will now create budget allocations in the Grants Portal for all new and incremental awards. This change will ensure that budgets are established consistent with sponsor’s intent, project needs and PI anticipated spending. The change is intended to reduce errors, delays and budget modification requests. Budget allocations can be created at proposal time, “just in time” (when funding is likely) or immediately following award receipt.
