The Center for Applied Isotope Studies (CAIS) is a multidisciplinary research core facility providing analytical services, research collaboration, and training in radiocarbon dating, isotope geochemistry, environmental analysis, and materials characterization. CAIS supports researchers across UGA and worldwide with high-quality, fee-for-service analyses, emphasizing methodological rigor, reproducibility, and collaborative science. |

Teams may propose research in a single field of study or interdisciplinary work. Don’t Quit! Resubmit!
While a few lucky PIs strike gold with a first proposal submission, it’s more likely that initial attempt will be rejected. Fortunately, the reviews you receive are the tools you need to succeed on the second (or third, or nth) try. If you’re working on a resubmission, contact the Office of Strategic Research Development.
It can be hard to winnow reviews down to critiques that are constructive, on-target, and in line with your overall intent. OSRD staff will meet with you to sort through your reviews and determine whether a comment needs to be addressed and how to address it. After we develop this resubmission plan together and you revise the proposal accordingly, we will use the chart to make sure everything is addressed, make any suggestions for improvement—and copy edit your proposal narrative, to boot.

| Kyle Johnsen wins Innovation Award from Georgia Life Sciences
College of Engineering Professor Kyle Johnsen received Georgia Life Sciences’ 2026 Innovation Award for his work on a virtual reality therapy called Targeted Brain Rehabilitation. The gaze-controlled technique helps amputees manage phantom limb pain by retraining their neural pathways, offering a promising nonpharmacological alternative for patients living with chronic pain. |

New research call will examine integrity during crises
The Crisis Communication Think Tank at UGA and the Arthur W. Page Center at Penn State seek proposals examining integrity in crisis communication. Projects may explore how integrity shapes organizational resilience, crisis preparedness, stakeholder well-being, and efforts to rebuild trust. Applications for funded research projects are due Jan. 15, 2027. Selected researchers will receive funding and opportunities to present their findings through the Page Center. Research Security Training: Who is required to complete it?
Federal research agencies require principal investigators, co-principal investigators, and other individuals designated as senior/key personnel on covered federal proposals to complete research security training. Faculty subject to this requirement should ensure their training is current before submitting a proposal. Those completing the training for the first time can access Research Security Training in PEP, while those who have completed it previously can take the Research Security Refresher Training in PEP.
