Huff named ASEE Fellow

James Huff, associate professor in the College of Engineering, has been named a Fellow of the American Society for Engineering Education (ASEE). ASEE confers the grade of Fellow to recognize outstanding contributions to engineering education or engineering technology education and considerable individual contributions to ASEE.

Shannon receives USG Hall of Fame Faculty Award

Sarah Shannon, Meigs Professor in the Department of Sociology, was among three USG faculty honored with the Felton Jenkins, Jr. Hall of Fame Faculty Award at the University System of Georgia (USG) 21st annual Regents’ Scholarship Gala. Shannon is the ninth UGA winner of the award since its creation in 1997.

The Office of Research maintains a list of external honors and awards to encourage faculty applications.

Introduction to Python for Research

This beginner-friendly workshop is designed to make the first steps in Python smooth and accessible. Instructors will teach participants how to assign and work with variables, use simple functions and libraries, and handle data with Pandas. No coding experience required.

Research Announcements

New RPIOT group charged with implementing research support recommendations

Following up on a fall 2024 visit to campus by a group from the National Council of University Research Administrators, UGA has empaneled the Recommendations Prioritization and Implementation Oversight Team (RPIOT), a cross-campus group of faculty and research staff, to review and implement recommendations that emerged from that visit. University community members can follow the team’s progress via a new Research Improvements & Support Enhancements tracker.

 

Updated HRPP/IRB Post-Approval Reporting Policy for Researchers

The Human Research Protection Program and Institutional Review Board have updated the post-approval reporting policy to strengthen oversight and participant protection. Researchers must promptly report adverse events, noncompliance, and complaints through the IRB Portal within 24 hours, 72 hours, or five business days, depending on severity.
