UGA Principal Gifts Highlights

University Libraries - Music Acquisitions

Congrats to Lee Snelling and Patrick Knowles!

  • This $2 million planned gift will support music acquisitions at UGA Libraries.
  • The donors prefer to be anonymous but are excited about Heritage Society benefits, especially the highly coveted, not-on-the-market Heritage Society tie and scarf.
  • Shout-out to Lee Snelling for bringing in the Gift and Estate Planning team early; always best practice!
  • Thanks to Dr. Toby Graham, University Librarian and Associate Provost, for his support of this gift.
  • The donors have a 29-year giving history to UGA, including 14 consecutive years most recently. Their largest previous gift was $250.
  • Yet again, this is a powerful reminder about the importance of our Annual Giving efforts and the fact that planned gifts can far exceed lifetime giving.

FACS's first-ever 7-figure gift!

Congrats to Suzanne Griffeth!

  • Marilyn Lundvall Malnati, a 92 year old ’54 Dietetics grad, made a $1 million naming gift to fund the much-needed renovations of the Nutritional Sciences Teaching Kitchen.
  • While conversations originally focused on planned giving, the donor decided to make the gift this year to reduce her estate.
  • Reminder that all namings require approval before being shared with donors. The VP’s chief of staff oversees this process. Please contact Maggie McAllister/Brittany Rider with any questions.
  • Proposal can be found here.

Back-to-back! Another 7-figure gift for FACS

Congrats to Suzanne Griffeth!

  • Charles Schwab Foundation made a $1.05 million gift to support the renovation of the Financial Resilience and Education Training Center.
  • The gift will fund renovation of one of FACS’s historic 1930s homes and transforms the space into a vibrant experiential learning hub.
    • Check out FACS’s timeline highlighting these unique facilities/historic homes.
  • This gift required submitting a request to our Gift Acceptance Committee (GAC) for approval.
    • Thank you to Jason Burdette, Chris Spruill and the Gift Accounting team for coordinating gifts requiring committee review (which meets monthly).

Sports Medicine Gift

Congrats to Brad Bell!

  • A $1 million gift from the Louise & Brett Samsky Family Foundation named and endowed the Samsky Director of Sports Medicine position.
  • UGA’s vision for sports medicine is: making a positive impact on healthcare, sports, performance, and life. Find more information about Sports Medicine at UGA.
  • This is a great example of a donor being disqualified in one area but successfully referred to another unit.
  • Shout out to Jill Walton and Andrea Burruss for their collaboration with Athletics on this donor, including efforts toward securing an academic gift as well.

Also, for fun – here is a neat multi-unit proposal for a campus-wide ask underway. Great work by Kathy Bangle, Carlton Bain, Hudson Clare, Brandon Cochran, Deborah Daniel, Erin Garrett, Suzanne Griffeth, Heather Malcom, Brooks McCommons, Matthew Mize, Matt Pruitt, Ruth Seiler, Molly Thomas, Jill Walton, and the Terry Marketing and Communications team with this principal gift discussion. Fingers crossed!

It is an honor and a privilege to celebrate our DAR colleagues for their efforts. Each of these gifts leaves a lasting impact on UGA, our students, and the philanthropists who give so generously.

Go Dawgs!
