PHILOSOPHY NEWS

FALL 2023

Dear Friends of the Department,

The fall semester is in full swing and it has been a great one so far. Students and faculty are working hard on interesting topics, and Peabody Hall feels like a hub for intellectual engagement. We are excited about upcoming events, such as the Kleiner Lectures described below. Please join us for one if you can!

Let me take this opportunity to highlight our remarkable graduate students. They do a great job as research and teaching assistants while also studying on demanding graduate degree programs. And, as described below, our recent PhDs are doing very well on the job market. This is a reflection of their talent and hard work as well as the overall quality of our department.

I also want to mention the recent promotions of two faculty members: Dr. Piers Stephens was promoted to Full Professor as of August 1, 2023, and Dr. Thanassis Samaras was promoted to Associate Professor on the same day. Congratulations to them both!

As always, we appreciate your interest in the University of Georgia’s Department of Philosophy. Please reach out to me at Aaron.Meskin@uga.edu if you want to ask any questions or share something about your time at UGA. Consider following our Instagram feed at @ugaphilosophy. And, as always, Go Dawgs!
