Patterson recognized as Georgia Groundbreaker

The late Eugene Patterson (ABJ '43), a journalist and editor who risked his life and career to stand up for justice, is part of the University of Georgia's Georgia Groundbreaker series. The series celebrates  innovative and visionary faculty, students, alumni and leaders and their profound, enduring impact on our state, our nation and the world.

Following his graduation from the University of Georgia, Patterson was a decorated war hero, serving in World War II under General George S. Patton Jr. in the Battle of the Bulge. A Pulitzer prize-winning journalist, Patterson served as executive editor and editor of the Atlanta Constitution, managing editor of the Washington Post and editor and president of the St. Petersburg Times.
