It's Beat Week—let's Topple the Tigers!

As UGA prepares to battle Auburn this Saturday in Sanford Stadium, we're taking this heated rivalry from the gridiron to giving—and we need your help, Bulldog Nation! Any gift in any amount counts as we seek to win the Beat Week giving challenge for the third consecutive year. The deadline is Saturday at 11:59 p.m. (CST).

Homecoming is next weekend (Oct. 14-16) and we're giddy thinking about welcoming thousands of members of the alumni family home to Athens. The weekend kicks off with the Homecoming Parade in downtown Athens, and Saturday is filled with school/college tailgates across campus. Not to mention the game against Vanderbilt in Sanford Stadium. See you there!

U.S. News & World Report places UGA at No. 16 in the nation

The University of Georgia held fast at No. 16 in U.S. News & World Report’s 2023 ranking of the best public universities in the nation, marking the seventh consecutive year that UGA has placed in the top 20.

Save the Date: Cookies & Cocoa with Hairy Dawg (Nov. 13)

Women of UGA invites you and your family to Cookies & Cocoa with Hairy Dawg on Nov. 13 at Villa Christina in Atlanta—the perfect start to the holiday season. This special event offers you an opportunity to have a family photo taken with Hairy Dawg while enjoying cookies and cocoa with fellow UGA alumni. Other activities include a “Letters to Uga” station and story corner with special guest readers. Details will be emailed out later in October.

News from Campus

• In the moot court system, UGA is represented by two separate but equally important groups of second- and third-year law students. This is their story. DUN DUN!

• “Dedicated to nourishing bodies, empowering minds, and creating a community of compassion.” This is the mission of Fresh Express, a student-led market that addresses food insecurity on campus.

• Decades ago, Georgia's once-thriving oyster industry collapsed. UGA researchers are working hard to bring it back.
• Across campus, initiatives from financial assistance to tutoring are helping students complete their UGA degrees.
• What began 38 years ago as a single undergraduate program has now grown into the UGA School of Computing.

Julie Schertell (MACC ’92) is building a workplace that values authenticity and drive at Mativ, a worldwide leader in specialty materials. 

Adam C. Johnson (MBA '16) is a privacy marketing manager at Meta, serves on the UGA Alumni Board of Directors, and supports UGA's Student Veterans Resource Center. 

Anna Williams (BSAB '12, BSA '12, MS '12) boosts visibility, both for specialty meat company Kiolbassa Smoked Meats and for marginalized voices in agriculture. 

Emily Ward (JD '13) is a partner at Smith, Gambrell & Russell in Atlanta and co-owns with her husband local restaurants Southern Belle and Georgia Boy.
