The deadline to nominate outstanding alumni for the 2023 Alumni Awards is Friday, Dec. 31.  

Four awards are presented each year to successful alumni who have made significant contributions to their professions since leaving UGA.

The  John Holliman Jr. Lifetime Achievement Award honors sustained contributions to the profession throughout a career.

The Mid-Career Awards honors a graduate who has been influential in his or her field.

The John E. Drewry Young Alumni Award recognizes a graduate of the last decade who has experienced a successful early career.

The Distinguished Scholar Award honors a graduate for excellence and sustained contributions to scholarship in journalism and mass communication education.

The 2023 Alumni Award winners will be honored at Salutes: a celebration of achievement, commitment and leadership on Friday, April 28 at Athens Cotton Press.

The Department of Advertising and Public Relations' six-year-old  AdPR Academy will take place in Atlanta, Nov. 9-13 with a new name: Myra Blackmon AdPR Academy for Diversity and Inclusion.

 

The program is designed to amplify the power of diversity, equity and inclusion while growing the pipeline of diverse advertising and public relations professionals. 

 

Myra Blackmon (ABJ ’72, M.Ed ’08) has enjoyed a long and varied career in industry and nonprofit organizations. For many years, she owned M. Blackmon Public Relations in Athens, serving a diverse clientele in finance, food products, health care, public affairs and fundraising. She and her husband, the late Dr. Thomas P. Holland, consulted internationally on management and governance of nonprofit organizations. Blackmon also taught public relations courses in our AdPR Department for several years.
