Partners Engage on College Access & Success

The Institute gathered more than 50 colleagues who are actively engaged in the college access and success spaces to talk through the areas of momentum and barriers they experience on the ground, in the research, and in policy making and implementation.

Two Georgia College Corps advisers Dezrae Lockett and Laurynn Scurlock kicked off the event with a poster on college-going culture in the high schools they serve.

The opening panel focused on college access landscape with presentations by Ashley Clayton, Korynn Schooley, and Sherontae Maxwell. The second panel, Heidi Leming, Paul Rubin, and Lori Tiller, talked about access and success programs making an impact in postsecondary institutions.

A keynote address by President Marion Ross Fedrick was a highlight for many as she shared the impact of Albany State University's programs on its students and community.

The afternoon session included a discussion of funding led by Anthony Jones, Ashley Young, and Kelly Rosinger and a next-steps session with remarks by Charles Sanchez and Daniel Thompson.

MARIHE Week

Professor Emerita Karen Webber coordinated the week of activities for nine international visitors from the Erasmus Mundus Masters in Research and Innovation in Higher Education (MARIHE) program.

The study-away opportunity completed the final portion of coursework in the MARIHE institutional research and strategic planning specialization.

Beyond required coursework, the program enabled visitors to learn more about US higher education and innovative initiatives at UGA through meetings in Athens and Atlanta.
