McBEE INSTITUTE NEWSLETTER ♦ MARCH 2023

ENGAGE ♦ CONNECT ♦ ADVANCE ♦ LEAD

Dear Graduates and Friends,

These first months of 2023 are an exciting time as we host prospective PhD students in Athens, ramp up our recruitment efforts for the eighth Executive EdD cohort, interview candidates for the McBee Professorship, welcome guest speakers, and prepare students for spring graduation.

In the middle of it all, we pause to mark the two-year anniversary of Louise McBee's passing. We continue to embrace her commitment to promoting fairness and excellence in all our efforts. Join us in raising a glass to Dr. McBee and her adroit vision and leadership.

With gratitude,
Jim Hearn

Interim director and
Professor of Higher Education

Support College Access in Georgia

The Georgia College Advising Corps places recent college graduates into Georgia high schools to help students understand their postsecondary options and navigate application processes. Demand for our college advisers outstrips our ability to support new positions. The average student-counselor ratio in Georgia is 490:1!

On March 30, the 2023 Dawg Day of Giving, we ask you to support our GCAC staff and advisers with a gift. Special promotional incentives will be announced on March 30 or you can get an early start and make a gift to support GCAC today!

  • $50 funds snacks at a scholarship application workshop
  • $250 provides supplies and food for a family financial aid night
  • $600 supports a school’s Decision Day, a festive culminating event that celebrates all students’ postsecondary plans
