An Unexpected Meetup: Mentor and Mentee Reconnect a Year Later

During a summer internship with Conagra Brands, Aria Morrill (UGA Mentee and UMP Ambassador) attended the Institute of Food Technologists annual conference, where she unexpectedly ran into her UGA Mentor from the summer of 2021, Trey Sanders (BSFCS '09, MS '11). This marked the first time they met in person, and they spent over an hour catching up. Aria says, "Feeling accepted and appreciated in my chosen field, especially as a student at a professional conference, inspires me to work harder to meet my goals and share the power of mentorship with other students. I'm always saying how much this program has changed my life, and I truly mean it."

A Big Change for the UGA Mentor Program

Informational Interviews, an option for mentees to request you for a 15-30-minute conversation, has been renamed Quick Chats! In addition to sounding much more inviting, we believe the change will make students more likely to engage with a mentor. If you haven't yet, please update your profile to opt-in to Quick Chats.

TIPS & TRICKS

Have you updated your UGA mentor profile?

The beginning of a semester is the perfect time to update your mentor profile. Best practices to ensure your profile appeals to students include:

  1. Upload an image of yourself to your profile.
  2. Add in your demographic information. Students want to see themselves in their mentor. New fields such as hobbies/interests and parent/caregiver give students more ways to connect with you!
  3. Keep your education and job history up to date. Be sure to add in your new job title, company, or degree as you continue to grow personally and professionally.
