84th Peabody Award winners announced

 

The Peabody Awards will be presented in Los Angeles on June 9. Thirty-four winners were selected to represent the most compelling and empowering stories released in broadcasting and streaming media during 2023. The winners were chosen from more than 1,100 entries in categories including television, podcasts/radio, and the web/digital in entertainment, news, documentary, arts, children’s/youth, public service and interactive programming.

 

"Star Trek," the beloved science fiction franchise, will receive the Institutional Award and  WITNESS, the international rights group that assists citizens across the globe in using video and digital technologies to protect and defend human rights, receives Peabody’s inaugural Global Impact Award.   

 

Mel Brooks, the award-winning actor, comedian, writer and director whose career has spanned over seven decades, will be presented with the Peabody Career Achievement Award; and Quinta Brunson, the award-winning writer, producer, actor and comedian, will receive the Peabody Trailblazer Award. 

 

Kumail Nanjiani, Oscar-nominated writer and Emmy-nominated actor and comedian, will serve as host.

Spring graduates celebrated 

 

More than 475 students were celebrated at Spring convocation on Wednesday, May 8 in Athens.

Anna Womack, a graduating public relations student who earned a certificate in Public Affairs Communications and served as a Tieger Fellow and a Grady College ambassador, addressed the class as the senior speaker.

Inaugural CCCT program a success

 

Grady College’s Crisis Communication Think Tank (CCTT) partnered with the Terry College of Business and UGA Executive Education on a crisis readiness program for business leaders this spring. The inaugural program included presentations about proactive crisis management strategies, how legal and risk management interact, the complexities of technology, media training and a crisis scenario simulation. 

 

Leading scholars and industry experts led the day-long event and engaged with participants about issues and crises faced by their businesses. The morning sessions tackled persistent challenges including understanding and communicating with stakeholders, legal and risk implications in decision making and the advanced nature of technology, software breaches and AI.
