Students coming this fall want to see themselves in their mentor. Stacey Chavis (MSL '19) says, "I would encourage all our Black Alumni to mentor. There are so many resources available to help guide you in building a relationship. Mentoring opened my eyes to different things and I learn a lot in return.”

Robert Gilliard

Robert Gilliard's Scientific Work is Groundbreaking

Named to Forbes ‘30 Under 30,’ the UGA alumnus is ‘seeking to expose new fundamental principles of chemistry.’ He first became known for his work at UGA on the silvery-white metal beryllium, which is used in alloys to increase the electrical conductivity of copper or nickel.

Eric Jones: Changing the Media Landscape

"Race and culture is the intersection where news happens," said Eric Jones, senior producer for race and culture at Good Morning America. Jones has become a critical voice in the mission to make the coverage for and of Black America more accurate, fair, and balanced.

 
Juanita Johnson-Bailey

Johnson-Bailey receives Zenobia Hikes Award

Accomplished faculty member Juanita Johnson-Bailey recently received the 2022 Zenobia L. Hikes Woman of Color in the Academy award from Virginia Tech. “Dr. Hikes was the consummate servant leader who gave unselfishly to her university community, and it is a great honor to be recognized with an award named in her memory,” Johnson-Bailey said.

Alumni Award Recipients Celebrated

The University of Georgia Alumni Association announced the seven recipients of the 2022 Alumni Awards at an event held on Friday, April 22. The annual Alumni Awards Luncheon, which dates back to 1936, recognizes individuals and organizations who demonstrate a commitment to UGA.

Tracy Anderson Puts Research Into Practice

Anderson is the Assistant Director of the Center for Family Research at UGA, and is instrumental in facilitating help for families. While this application of research has become a central theme of her career, working at a UGA research center was not in her earliest plans.
