Updates from S. Jack Hu, Senior Vice President for Academic Affairs and Provost. July 28, 2021 In just three weeks, the University of Georgia will begin fall semester with a full return to the in-person instruction that has made this institution a national leader in public higher education.
Our campus community becomes safer with every person who is vaccinated against COVID-19, so vaccination continues to be strongly encouraged for all faculty, staff, and students. Appointments can be scheduled directly with the University Health Center, at other USG campuses, and in numerous community sites.
We look forward to welcoming new and returning faculty and students back to campus, and several resources are available to promote their success. New Faculty Orientation, scheduled for August 3, is the first of many workshops that are part of the comprehensive, year-long Keys to UGA: New Faculty Academy. The Division of Student Affairs has compiled resources and information for students, and units across campus have scheduled programs and events to welcome students.
The new academic year also includes two new awards to recognize faculty excellence. The University of Georgia Award for Excellence in Teaching, established based on a recommendation from the UGA Teaching Academy, will provide a $7,500 cash award for up to two full-time faculty members in a non-tenurable position each year. The Team Impact Award, sponsored by the Office of Research, recognizes contributions made by crosscutting teams and comes with a $5,000 prize.
Each new academic year brings new opportunities to advance our vital missions of teaching, research, and service. I extend my sincere appreciation to all of the faculty, staff, and academic leaders who have worked so diligently over the past several months. Thanks to your dedication, the University of Georgia is poised for an outstanding year of learning, discovery, and engagement.
Sincerely, S. Jack Hu Senior Vice President for Academic Affairs and Provost
