The University of Georgia has named Richard Dunn (ABJ '93) and Xernona Thomas (ABJ '91, MSW '92, EDD '17) as the recipients of the 2023 Footsteps Award. This annual award, given this year on the 62nd anniversary of desegregation at UGA, recognizes UGA graduates who are following in the pioneering footsteps of Charlayne Hunter-Gault, Hamilton Holmes and Mary Frances Early, UGA’s first African American students. |

Meyers Quad was filled with fellowship on October 15, thanks to dedicated alumni, family and friends. This year, donors contributed over $25,000 in support to the Black Alumni Scholarship Fund through homecoming T-shirt and box sales. Embracing Diversity is an annual program that celebrates the value of diversity and inclusion at the University of Georgia. This year's ceremony included recognition of the first-year recipients of the Black Alumni Scholarship, which is supported by members of the 1961 Club and awarded annually to students "who exhibit dedication to racial equality through previous experiences, initiatives and creative endeavors in improving race relations in the community."
