Dean Bo Rutledge: Invest in Success - The Power of Anonymous Giving

Anonymous Giving Helps Fulfill Vision of Being the Best Return on Investment in Legal Education

Dear alumni, alumnae and friends,

Over the last several weeks, the University of Georgia School of Law has been highlighting various ways members of the law school community have been Investing in Success to help the law school realize its vision of being one the best returns on investment in legal education. However, there are several individuals who have chosen to support the law school’s mission anonymously, but their impact is no less significant. I would like to take this opportunity to share some of the incredible anonymous gifts we have received in recent years:

  • $100,000 scholarship to memorialize Marvin Devereaux, who was a friend of the donor who wishes to remind the law school community that the most important people in their lives may not be those who advance their legal careers.
  • $750,000+ to support the First-Generation Scholarship Matching Fund and motivate others to assist first-generation college graduates in attaining a first-rate legal education and diversifying the profession. Currently 100% of our first-gen students receive some level of financial aid.
  • $100,000 to fund Veterans Legal Clinic initiatives.
  • $1 million to support the Jane W. Wilson Family Justice Clinic and a Distinguished Law Fellowship.
  • $200,000+ to the John B. Rees Jr. Distinguished Law Fellowship Fund, honoring the late faculty member who served from 1959 to 2002.
  • $1.4+ million to the Kenneth M. Henson Distinguished Law Fellowship, honoring the late 1947 School of Law graduate.
  • Multiple planned gifts from graduates, faculty, staff, family and friends who have chosen to leave a lasting legacy at the School of Law.

Through the power of anonymous giving, these benefactors are truly making a difference and helping your law school to offer a first-rate legal education to tomorrow’s leaders of state and society. Please join me in applauding their commitment to the University of Georgia School of Law.
