McBEE IHE GRADUATE NEWSLETTER

DECEMBER 2021

Dear IHE graduates and friends,

As we wrap up a busy and exciting semester, I want to thank our community for supporting us. We look forward to 2022 and a New Year's resolution to validate Louise McBee's confidence in us each day!

Happy holidays!

Best wishes to all,
Libby Morris

Director, McBee Institute of Higher Education
Zell Miller Distinguished Professor of Higher Education

Celebrating Louise McBee

Director Libby Morris, President emeritus Charles Knapp, and President Jere Morehead offered remarks on Louise McBee's legacy at ribbon cutting ceremony.

We hosted a wonderful crowd on November 16. Thank you to everyone who made the day so special!

Our students met with the president of Minnesota Joan T.A. Gabel for a frank Q&A about higher education. Then, an overflowing crowd attended our formal dedication and ribbon-cutting ceremony before gathering at the Chapel for the McBee Lecture in Higher Education and a reception on the lawn.

In her lecture, President Gabel took us on an intellectual exploration of higher education's foundation in social contract theory from Athens, Greece to Athens, Georgia to the Twin Cities in Minnesota.

Starting new partnerships

Dr. Michelle Cook facilitated a conversation on change initiatives and strategic planning in higher education.

Associate professor Erik Ness led a productive exchange between UGA administrators and a delegation from International University of Grand-Bassam (IUGB). The series of meetings was part of grant-funded project, initiated by the Andrew Young Foundation with partners at IUGB, UGA Office of Global Engagement, Mary Frances Early College of Education, and Louise McBee Institute of Higher Education.

Ness is a co-principal investigator, and he traveled to Côte d'Ivoire over the summer.
