Andrea Bruce named inaugural Knight Chair in Visual Journalism

A message from Dean Davis

The holiday season is a wonderful time for reflection and certainly provides an ideal opportunity for thanking those who made the year special. The list is long, but I’m making a real effort to thank as many people as I can this year. This year especially, I need the feeling of thankfulness more than ever.

So much of that stems from all we’ve accomplished these past few years at Grady, but it’s more than that. It’s a testament to the people who make this place special - students, faculty, staff and alumni.

I’ve worked and learned at six different universities, and never, ever have I witnessed a connectedness like there is here. Grady College is just a different place. Is it the footprint? Southern culture? Maybe. All I know is Grady is palpably different, and I am thankful. Grady people share, invest in one another’s success, go the extra mile. Not a week goes by that I do not see a member of the faculty or staff do something truly extraordinary simply because it benefits students. I am continually inspired by the accomplishments and the work being done by our alumni and their willingness to give back to the place that shaped them.

And when it all comes down to it, that’s the most important thing of all: we exist because of, and for, the students. I’m more thankful for them than ever.

Have a wonderful, restful holiday season. Give thanks!

Destination Dawgs explore Grady College

From using the green screen in the Newsroom studio and experiencing virtual reality technology, to calling the Dawgs with Dean Charles Davis, the Destination Dawgs enjoyed a day at Grady last month as a first-of-its-kind immersive experience on campus. Dean Charles Davis (MA '92) and Stephanie Moreno (ABJ '06, MA '20), director of scholastic outreach and recruitment, created a program inviting Destination Dawgs to spend the day exploring different activities. Several Grady College ambassadors helped lead the students and answer questions.

Destination Dawgs is a program at UGA serving students with intellectual disabilities between the ages of 18- and 25-years-old. Destination Dawg students complete four semesters of classes, work-based learning and campus activities. At the end of the program, the students earn a UGA Certificate in College and Career Readiness.
