The Pulse: Development & Alumni Relations Newsletter

They're baaaaaack! Classes started last week and the energy is palpable. Congrats to the Student Engagement team on a successful Freshman Welcome; as you engage thousands of students from their first day on campus, you help build a committed alumni network in the future. And thank you to the Donor Relations & Stewardship team for hosting our faculty, staff and retiree donors for a lovely PAWS Reception last week. Thanks to EVERYONE for all you do!

Fundraising Update

After a successful FY23, it's time to roll up our sleeves and get to work. We're running a little behind as we dig into the new year. Fundraisers: please update plans and opportunities in GAIL and let's hit the road to meet with prospects. Questions? Email Jeremy Ransom.

The Alumni Participation Rate (APR) has started off strong with nearly 3,600 donors in the month of July. APR is tracking 10% ahead year-over-year as a result of the gameday button campaign. Questions? Email Heather Duiser.

Four Strategic Initiatives

As we transition into FY24, DAR will focus on four main areas (below). In the coming months, we will collaborate to define and communicate success around these areas and align our work to advance them. They have been communicated to the president, and VP Walton has been including them in meetings across the division:

  • Fundraising to support UGA strategic priorities through scholarship support, experiential learning, facilities and active learning, student wellness, and faculty support.
  • Strengthening our donor pipeline through data-driven engagement with students, alumni, and friends.
  • Expanding industry engagement and cultivating support for the Innovation District.
  • Engaging students in career development and mentorship.

Questions? Email Tyler Daniels.

Coffee & Connections with Provost Hu

S. Jack Hu, senior vice president for academic affairs and provost, invites campus faculty and staff for Coffee and Connections, an informal networking event that invites attendees to build connections with UGA leadership and each other. Two gatherings are planned for this semester:

  • Friday, Sept. 15  |  8:30-10 AM
  • Thursday, Nov. 9  |  8:30-10 AM

Events will be held at the Delta Innovation Hub. Please register if you plan to participate.

UGA Professional Development Resources

The start of a new school year is here, and many students are excited to get back to campus and start learning. Did you know that you don't have to be a student to learn new skills at UGA? There are myriad opportunities for faculty/staff to expand their knowledge and expertise through classes, workshops, and other online resources—there's something for everyone! Talent Management encourages you to take advantage of all UGA has to offer, such as:

  • Take a Learning and Development class (formerly Training and Development) by signing up through the professional education portal.
  • Take a course on LinkedIn Learning; it's free!
  • For those who aspire to earn another degree, learn about the Tuition Assistance Program (TAP)

Questions about these resources? Please contact Michelle Carter.

Dawg Source Launch

To enhance the student experience, UGA is launching Dawg Source to connect students to resources from pre-enrollment through graduation in person and online. This "one-stop" initiative was announced during the 2023 State of the University Address. During Phase 1, the UGA App for iOS and Android will offer customized views for students, employees, and other groups. Users will select an experience category, which will allow the UGA App to emphasize the info that is most applicable. Download the UGA App in the Apple App Store and the Google Play Store . And don't forget to also download the UGA Safe App (below).

Refreshed Alumni Career Services Webpage

Check out the new home for UGA Alumni Career Services online. Questions? Email Umesh Patel.

UGA Career Center: A Year in Review

For the seventh year in a row, the UGA Career Center was the No. 1 way that UGA students found employment. Check out the successes this stellar team achieved this past year. A few highlights:

  • The Career Center managed 7,486 career counseling and drop-in appointments for students and alumni
  • 5,132 students participated in 89 ArchReady programs.
  • $117,800 in scholarship funding was provided to students for professional attire
  • And much, much more!

Questions? Email Scott Williams.

Reminder: Do Not Use Trademarked (TM) Logos

Please remember to only use UGA logos that have a registered mark (R) next to them, NOT logos with a trademark (TM) next to them. Check out Amanda Qubty's blog about this.

Football Season Content for Bulldog Fans

This football season, alumni.uga.edu/football will again serve as Alumni Football HQ, featuring events, news and other spirited opportunities to engage with UGA grads. The page is still being finessed ahead of kickoff; please send updates to Elizabeth Elmore. And don't forget to visit alumni.uga.edu/gamewatching to encourage alumni, friends and fans to call the Dawgs with their local alumni chapter. Questions about game-watching parties? Questions? Email Doug McAcy.

? Pre-Season Football Solicitation Campaign ?

This year's preseason football solicitation campaign began in early July and will continue through September 5. This campaign has a two-pronged goal: acquiring new donors while retaining current and previous donors. Donors who give $5+ will receive a pair of game day buttons. Questions? Email Sherry Abrams.

Alumni Count: More than 355,000

Twice per year, we update our living alumni count so that we're all saying the same thing on websites, materials and in scripts. As of July, we have "more than 355,000 living alumni." Please let others know who may need to updates their print/online resources. Questions? Email Elizabeth Elmore.
