Graduation is always a joyous time at the University of Georgia School of Law. Last month, our entire community – most importantly, the Class of 2025 and their loved ones – gathered to celebrate the launch of another class of eager lawyers. And, of course, springtime in Athens is beyond compare.
Now, summer is upon us. Summer is a season for preparation, poised between bidding one class farewell and welcoming a fresh class of talented and motivated students. It is a time for reflection as well.
In that spirit of reflection, I’ll observe that Georgia Law’s strong sense of community is rooted in a conviction that we must hear different points of view, sometimes ones with which we disagree. I’d like to highlight that at UGA we have a policy of institutional neutrality, which means you will not hear the School of Law weigh in on current events. This system-wide USG policy, with which I wholeheartedly agree, allows us to preserve the academic freedom and free-flowing debate that define who we are.
Finally, in this time of reflection, I want to express my gratitude to those who have made a recent gift to the School of Law. With reductions to higher education funding on the horizon, your support is more crucial than ever. Flagship state schools like UGA represent the very best of higher education. Your law school remains committed to redefining what it means to be a great national public law school. We need your support. If you have not made a gift this fiscal year, I encourage you to do so by June 30. Thank you!
