CAES Alumni Blog Spotlight

It's pumpkin season, #AgDawgs! Check out our recent feature on this cool Ag Dawg owned pumpkin patch - Oakhurst Farms.

"Nestled near the Georgia-Alabama state border in West Point, Georgia, Oakhurst Farms stands as a testament to the enduring legacy of family farming and the innovative spirit of its owners. This historic farm, established in 1901, has been a cornerstone of the community for over a century. Today, it thrives under the stewardship of University of Georgia alumnus Steve Morgan (MAX ’94) and his family."

Hurricane Helene Damage

CAES and UGA Extension are fully engaged in supporting recovery efforts and damage assessments. CAES Dean & Director Nick T. Place has been on the ground with UGA Extension specialists and agents, state partners, Governor Brian P. Kemp, and the Georgia Department of Agriculture to assess the damage around the state. You can find updates in Hurricane Helene: Preliminary damage assessment on Georgia agriculture and forestry industry.

Georgia’s leading ag organizations, CAES included, have joined together to promote an effort to preserve Georgia’s family farms through the Weathered But Strong Relief Fund. 100 percent of donations to this fund will directly support Georgia farmers in need.

CAES alumna and Director of Experiential Learning, Caroline Hinton (BSA '19, BSA '19, MAEE '21), helps CAES students connect with experiencial learning opportunities and supports them in their career exploration.

“Through my experience as a student here, I fell in love with the college, the industry that it serves and the citizens that it produces after graduation,” Hinton said. “I always thought that I would come through, graduate and move on to something else, but it’s been the perfect place for me to give back to a lot of those experiences that I had as a student.”
