A Letter from Jeff Brown (AB '05) President of the Black Alumni Leadership Council Greetings Bulldog Family,
Year two as your Black Alumni Leadership Council president is in full swing. This role has not only been rewarding, but the most fun! When I became president, my desire was to help Black alumni re-engage with our alma mater and to raise money for the Black Alumni Scholarship Fund to help future Bulldogs succeed. Since 2008, the 1961 Club has provided 21 students with four-year renewable scholarships totaling $79,000. Generous donors also raised $150,000 to establish a four-year, need-based Georgia Commitment Scholarship. Thanks to everyone who has contributed to these causes; we’ve laid a strong foundation for continued student success.
Last year, we set a goal to raise $60,000 in 6 months—and even amid the pandemic, you answered the call! We ultimately raised over $149,000 … and we’re not stopping! Further down, you’ll see a simple plan for us to raise $160,000 before June 30, 2022. We hope you’ll join us in this ambitious undertaking. Together we will reach this transformational goal—especially as we continue to recognize the 60th anniversary of desegregation at UGA and the trailblazers who paved the way for the next generation of alumni.
Thank you for all that you do for our school and its students. See you on the quad at Homecoming!
