UGA School of Medicine shares building updates, new hires, and more.

The Scope

School of Medicine Donors,

As founding dean of the School of Medicine, I wanted to take the time to extend my sincere gratitude for your unwavering commitment to our mission. It is an exciting and historic time here at the University of Georgia, and I’m honored you have chosen to take the journey with us by supporting the School of Medicine.

In May, we celebrated the beginning of construction on our new Medical Education and Research Building. The 93,600 square foot facility will be located on the Health Sciences Campus on Foster Road and will feature state-of-the-art technology and collaborative learning spaces for our students. Be sure to check out a live view of the building progress below.

With construction on the new facility well underway, I would like to extend a sincere thank you for your support. Because of your commitment to this university and our mission to improve the health and well-being of Georgians everywhere, we are now able to turn our fundraising focus to the critical area of scholarship support.

Medical school is a substantial financial commitment for students, and many graduate with over $200,000 in debt. To help alleviate this financial burden for aspiring healthcare workers and to maximize donor impact, the UGA Foundation has made a limited amount of matching funds available to donors interested in supporting student scholarships. We are grateful for this opportunity and excited to continue growing our pool of scholarships at the School of Medicine. Additionally, we welcome referrals of anyone in your network who may be interested in learning more about how to make an impact on students who are dedicating their lives to caring for others.

Thank you again for your commitment to making a healthier Georgia. Together, we can bring more doctors to our state and make health care more accessible for our fellow citizens. We would not be here today without you and your unyielding dedication to the School of Medicine.

As always, go Dawgs!

With my gratitude,

Shelley Nuss Signature

New Senior Director of Development seeks to positively impact the lives of medical students, faculty, and patients

The UGA School of Medicine welcomed Hudson Clare as its new senior director of development earlier this month. He brings a diverse background in higher education and fundraising, most recently serving as the senior associate director of development for the University of Virginia’s School of Medicine.

While Hudson meets with Dean Nuss, faculty, staff, and future students to gain an understanding of the school’s culture and goals in his first 90 days, he also looks forward to engaging with current and prospective donors to strengthen philanthropic support for the school’s key initiatives, including scholarships and infrastructure.

“I’m eager to support the dean’s top priorities and to discover each donor’s personal connection to medicine,” he said. “Together we can accelerate discovery, attract the brightest medical students through scholarships, and position Georgia at the forefront of medical education and research.” Reach out to Hudson to learn more about the School of Medicine, its commitment to building a healthier Georgia, and how you can continue to make a difference.

At the UGA School of Medicine, student scholarships and strong financial aid will significantly enhance our efforts to bring an exceptional first class of students to Athens. This along with classrooms, conference rooms, group study rooms, simulation bays, clinical skills labs and more can mark your legacy of support for this historic initiative.

If you are interested in learning more about supporting medical students through scholarships or naming opportunities for the new Medical Education and Research Building, please contact Hudson Clare.

Continue your commitment to building a healthier Georgia.
