February 2021 Looking Ahead President Morehead’s State of the University address recognized the strength and resilience shown by the entire UGA community throughout one of the toughest years in recent history. He spoke of how our mission and values light the path forward and unite us in a common purpose of teaching, research and service as we strengthen UGA’s nationally recognized learning environment, ensure our students are well-prepared for the future and empower our research enterprise to do even more to solve the grand challenges of our time. It is a powerful reminder of why we do what we do! I am proud of this team and all we are already doing to champion UGA priorities among our alumni and donors. This issue of the Pulse showcases some of your great work. It can't be denied: we are not simply persevering in the face of challenges, we are thriving and succeeding. And during this historic recognition of the 60th anniversary of UGA’s desegregation, I hope you are all celebrating Black History Month and taking advantage of the many events and presentations that help make us better prepared to be an active part of moving our world forward in a positive way. Keep up the great work and thank you for your commitment! Vice President for Development and Alumni Relations and Executive Director of the UGA Foundation

Diversity and Inclusion
February is Black History Month As we celebrate, let us remember to pause, reflect and highlight the contributions of African American/Black Americans throughout U.S. history. Although there’s no timeline that wholeheartedly captures their impact on our country, this article on Black History Milestones is a great start. As you navigate these moments in history, I encourage you to consciously take heed of the contributions, sacrifices, and successes of Black Americans. Keep in mind that engaging in Black history goes beyond the month of February, so please continue to explore!
Best Regards,
MICHELLE N. CARTER Chief Diversity Officer

Annual Giving
New Matching Gifts Process Launched A new online tool called “Double the Donation” is designed to discover and generate more employer matching gifts from eligible donors. The service incorporates a plug-in feature on our online giving form. Donors who self-identify that they work for matching gift employer receive automated emails. Donors whose employer is unknown receive an email encouraging them to check if their or their spouse’s employer is match-eligible. Donors only receive these emails if they donate via our standard “commit” giving form, and it will exclude donors who work for ineligible employers. Let Chatise Smith know if you have questions or concerns.
Gift Accounting Finalizes Year-End Gift Processing The mid-year report shows that while we are trailing FY20, we are having a strong year and are on par with FY19.
