Black Alumni E-Newsletter - July 2021
A Letter from Jeff Brown (AB '05) President of the Black Alumni Leadership Council Greetings Bulldog Family,
I would be remiss if I didn’t first congratulate fellow Black alumni Yvette Daniels on becoming the first Black woman president of the UGA Alumni Association! She’s got an exciting vision on how to reengage alumni and connect them to their alma mater. I can’t wait to get to work as we look forward to this next academic year.
More exciting news: because of your generous support, we surpassed our goal of raising $60,000 for the Black Alumni Scholarship Fund last fiscal year, which ended on June 30. We called on all alumni to give $60-for-60 in honor of the 60th anniversary of desegregation at UGA, and they responded by setting records for number of gifts (2,905) and total revenue ($149,605) for the Black Alumni Scholarship Fund in a fiscal year! These funds will help expand Black Alumni scholarships, which currently support 7 students.
Now, the answer to the question I know you’re all asking: yes, Homecoming is back! I can’t wait to see you on the quad on October 16th! Stay tuned for more information about our plans to gather this season, as well as how you can still participate from afar.
As always, I can’t stress enough how thankful we are for your participation. During a year that changed all of our lives, you rose to the occasion and continued to support our students and our community. As we move into this new season, we look forward to taking Black Alumni to even greater heights together.
